Refund Policy
Last updated: 5 July 2026
1. Introduction
This Refund Policy explains when and how you can get a refund for Sticky Keys, a native desktop application for Windows and macOS that gives pianists real-time harmonic feedback. Kafka's Kaleidoscope is operated by Joubert Bekker, an individual founder and sole proprietor based in South Africa (referred to here as "we", "us" or "our"). You can reach us at [email protected] or by post at 13 Pioneer Rd, Irene Security Estate, Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa.
The product is now called Sticky Keys. "Kafka's Kaleidoscope" remains the registered trading name. Both names refer to the same product and the same provider, and this policy covers both.
We want you to be happy with your purchase, so we offer a straightforward 14-day satisfaction refund on individual purchases, in addition to the statutory consumer rights you enjoy under South African law.
2. Try before you buy: the free trial
A free trial version of Sticky Keys is available to download and evaluate before you buy. We encourage you to use the free trial to make sure the software suits you and works with your MIDI keyboard before committing to a paid plan. The app requires a MIDI keyboard connected by USB or MIDI cable, and does not include any hardware.
3. The 14-day satisfaction refund
If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may request a full refund within 14 days of purchase. This applies to all individual purchases:
- Monthly subscription (US$20 per month);
- Yearly subscription (US$119 per year); and
- Lifetime licence (one-time US$249).
To qualify, your refund request must reach us within 14 days of the date of purchase.
4. How to request a refund
To request a refund, email us at [email protected] within 14 days of your purchase and include your PayPal transaction ID. The transaction ID helps us find your payment quickly and process your refund without delay.
5. How and when refunds are processed
Refunds are issued to the original PayPal payment method used for the purchase. Payments and refunds are processed by PayPal, including debit and credit card payments made through PayPal guest checkout. We never store or process card numbers; PayPal handles all card data.
Once your refund is approved, it is typically completed within 5 to 10 business days.
6. Deactivation of your licence after a refund
When a refund is made, the licence associated with that purchase is deactivated. The activation code stops working, the download link stops working, and the devices activated with it lose access the next time the app contacts our servers. If a device is offline it may keep working until it next connects. You are, of course, welcome to continue using the free trial version to evaluate the software.
7. Subscriptions
Both the monthly and yearly plans are subscriptions that auto-renew until you cancel them.
- Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals. It does not, by itself, refund the current period, except as set out in this Refund Policy.
- The most recent charge is refundable within the 14-day window described above. To request this, follow the steps in section 4.
8. Institution and education seat licences
Institution and education seat licences are per-seat licences for schools and organisations, usually invoiced, where one licence token activates a set number of student seats managed from the Institution Admin panel in the app, on Windows or Mac. Refunds for these licences are handled per the invoice or written agreement that applies to your organisation. If you have questions about a refund for an institution or education licence, please contact us at [email protected].
9. Your statutory rights under South African law
This 14-day satisfaction refund is offered in addition to, and does not limit or replace, any rights you have under South African law.
Under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA), the cooling-off right generally does not apply to digital content that has already been downloaded with the consumer's consent. Because Sticky Keys is delivered as a downloadable application, the ECTA cooling-off right may not apply once you have downloaded it. Our 14-day satisfaction refund is offered voluntarily and separately from that cooling-off right.
Nothing in this Refund Policy limits or excludes any statutory consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA). This Refund Policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
